Shun and Kin lost their parents in a car accident two years ago. During the will reading, everyone was shocked to learn that their father had appointed Mikoto, a young and single stranger who is only ten years the twin’s senior, to be their legal guardian.
Mikoto was surprised too. He came to know the twin’s father while working in the cafe. They clicked off so well that Shun’s father “adopted” Mikoto as his younger brother.
Life after the funeral was not easy for the three of them. But they worked hard to understand each other and learned through laughters, tears and quarrels to become a new family. Kin and Shun have come to love and respect Mikoto very much and Mikoto, too, has come to appreciate his new family.
Sometimes Kaoru will get into a dark depressing mood. When this happens, Shun will just stay by his friend and wait patiently.
And then Kaoru might talk. He might cry. He might curse. He might just keep quiet. It’s ok. Shun will just be there waiting and Kaoru knows it.
Mikoto left his father’s house when he was 17 yrs old. He rented a room with the small inheritance from his deceased mother and worked part-time in a cafe set up by a group of old retirees while doing his studies.
His landlord and also one of owners of the cafe was a retired banker. He saw in Mikoto the son he never had and took him under his wings. He taught him to make good coffee, do sound investment, and how to enjoy his life. He became his mentor, his father and the family Mikoto has lost.
When his mentor passed on, he left Mikoto a house, his kimonos, his books and his cat.
Mikoto would wear his mentor’s kimonos during important occasion or whenever he feels lonely or lost or misses his mentor.
“Even with whatever people want to label me with,
there are so many other sides to me.”
~ Wiz Khalifa ~
Mikoto has many labels given to him: bastard, son of a money schemer, ruthless, talented , handsome etc. He has learned to ignore them all even when he was a boy. For these labels do not define him. He knows no boundary and he will not be limited by anyone.
Kin and Shun are twins but not identical. They are like two bodies each taking some parts of a soul: Shun is older, shinning and bright in mood and character; Kin is younger, sensitive and quiet. They love each other dearly and are very protective over each other.
