This is Chika [智香]. Kagura’s younger sister. She came on 7 May 2015. From Hong Kong. Finally.
I have been wanting to get another DD or DDS as Kagura’s sister. I tried for the Volks lottery a few times but no luck. I’ve tried for her too and no win.
By the way, she is Volks Dollfie Dream Sister (DDS) Uzuki Shimamura from TV series “IDOLM@STER CINDERELLA GIRLS”. I am not familiar with the series but I like her happy smile.
Feeling disappointed, I grumbled a bit to my friends. By chance, a friend’s friend in Hong Kong won an extra Uzuki and was looking for someone to take over her. So this is how she came to me. Thanks to this doll owner who willingly sold her to me at original price. \(^o^)/
She is not wearing her original full-set. I let her tried on the cat ears hoodie I have sewed for my SD girls. Somehow, it fits her.
Here is Chika again.
This Sunday I’ll be attending this festival with a few friends. This is my first time though they are regular. We have been preparing for it for a couple of weeks or so…I’m getting excited about it.
How about you? If you are in Singapore, why not come down with your camera and have fun? You can find more details if you click on the logo below.
See the flag and flyer my friend has made for me. He’s such a talented guy. In fact, he is putting up a few items for the festival. And they are good. We will also have a small sale booth selling what we enjoy making. Do come and give us your support!
Kagura is modelling one of nekomimi (cat ears) accessories I have made for the sale booth. She looks cute, doesn’t she?
These are the accessories I have made for the event. Hair clips, cat ears, rabbit ears, shawl, brooch….all to match your girls’/boys’ kimono/yukata. They are only a few of them and all at low prices. Come down to the festival and get them before they are all sold out. \(^_^)/ And for friends who have liked my Facebook page, I will give you a discount of $1.00 for your purchases as my appreciation for your support.
So, what are you waiting for? See you at the EOY this Sunday! It’s going to be fun! ~~~ヾ(＾∇＾) ー♪
Finally. It was time to make our way there. As expected. The MRT was packed with elderly, pregnant mothers, kids, adults, teenagers, tourists and ……. characters from the anime!!! p(*＾-＾*)q This was like a once-a-year when the gate between the two worlds, real and anime, opens and their folks mingle and visit each other. What a sight!
This year the turnout seemed to be bigger than the last. The event hall was packed. Even the ground around the hall was overtaken by people: cosplayers, their supporters, photographers and curious onlookers.
It was a little disappointing for me though. The things I wanted, like the Nendoroid Kuroyukihime, were sold out. It was only the second day! (；_・）
These were some of the new Gundam, figures and nendoroid on display.
And of course, the DDs! Such a big group! See! Kagura’s standing there in her red kimono and helping to display the hats I had done up for the event. Such a sweet helper. (^_^)
There were a few other types of dolls too: ball-jointed (bjd) and Azone girls but the majority were DDs. It’s like in a dream seeing so many of them.
A pity I didn’t manage to take more photos. Maybe next year, I should plan to go on the first day instead. (＾□＾*)
Yap! We are going to the Anime Festival Asia (AFA) 2012 this Saturday.
Kagura will be dressed up for the event. She has two outfits ready and I have not decided which yet. I will also bring some of the hats I have done. In fact, I have jazzed them up with new flowers, feathers, ribbons etc. They will all be on display with the other Dollfie Dreams at the Fujiwara Yukino stall.
Here is a sneak preview of the hats:
If you are interested, email me to make arrangement.
Meantime, see you there! Oh! K is one of the featured anime! \(ˆoˆ)/
This follows from my previous post on the cheongsam I have made for my girls. This post will feature Kagura, my DD.
Since DD is a ball-jointed doll or BJD designed in anime style, I have given her cheongsam some design elements usually found in anime/manga: super mini skirt, fitting outfit and frills. Here she is.
I have picked a bright yellow fabric, an auspicious colour to wear for Lunar New Year and a dull orange binding for contrast. To get a better measurement for the paper pattern, I followed the pattern drafting instructions in Dollybird vol 15. There are plenty of photos so it’s still easy to follow even though my Japanese is limited. Kagura was very patient too standing there wrapped up in layers of plastic wrap while I pinned paper onto her body.
After getting the paper pattern from this method, I proceeded to make a prototype and adjusted the paper pattern further. Finally, this is the outcome:
I would say I’m very pleased with the fit of the bodice (Kagura is using her M bust here) and the collar turned out quite well. But I have to make adjustments to the front darts and the hip fitting. DD has a tiny waist compared to her bust and hip. So I need to consider how to adjust it so that the bodice fit will flow smoothly down to the waist and to the hip. Currently for this piece, there are two creases on the sides of the waist. It is more obvious in this photo.
For the Chinese knotted button used in cheongsam, I doubt I would be able to find any small ones which can fit into a DD dress. Already it’s so difficult to find beautiful ones nowadays. Mum used to make the buttons for the Chinese blouse she sewed for granny but since granny’s demise, she has forgotten how to make the buttons…but I have digressed… (*^^*)
So I crocheted some small flower design using an orange yarn and sewed it on with golden bead and Viola!
Throw in a pair of thigh socks with lace and fur and roses on the hair, now doesn’t she look like one of the kawaii girls in the anime?
In black and white:
AFA11, Anime Fest, Anime Festival Asia 2011, Danny Choo, dd, dd Yukino, dollfie dream, Dollybird, Gundam, Homura Akemi, Kagura, Leeke World, Madoka Kaname, nendoroid, Rin Tohsaka, Saber, Saber Fate/Zero, Saber Lily, Saber Triumphant Excalibur, Volks
It was an experience. Seeing so many enthusiastic cosplayers and anime fans in the same place. Especially when we were taking lunch at the food centre. It was kind of queer seeing characters walking out of the anime and into the food centre looking for food. （ ゜ロ゜ ）
There were a number of booths selling figures and Gundam kit etc. In addition, there was a booth with a lot of DDs on display. Ｏ(≧∇≦)Ｏ It’s amazing to see so many different DDs at the same time. It’s obvious they were much treasured by their owners.
Kagura was there too. Here she is:
Initially, I planned to modify a dress pattern from one of my Dollybird magazines. But somehow I didn’t like the way the bodice hung on her. Maybe the fabric is too thin? Fortunately, I had cut out only the bodice.
Not wanting to waste the fabric, I abandoned the original plan and totally modified the design: added gatherings at the bodice, scooped the neckline, changed the look of the sleeves, made an empire-like skirt with lace at the hem and ribbon at the waist, made a black lace crochet hairband and dug up a Victorian-ish locket for her. I must say the end result turned out quite pleasing. (^_^)
I didn’t manage to take many photos as the place was packed with jostling crowd. Nor did we spend much. At the end, the man-in-the-house made a preorder for a Gundam kit. As for me, I didn’t see anything that gave me the undeniable urge to open my wallet. So, my money is safe for now. （＾＿－）☆
