Mikoto left his father’s house when he was 17 yrs old. He rented a room with the small inheritance from his deceased mother and worked part-time in a cafe set up by a group of old retirees while doing his studies.

His landlord and also one of owners of the cafe was a retired banker. He saw in Mikoto the son he never had and took him under his wings. He taught him to make good coffee, do sound investment, and how to enjoy his life. He became his mentor, his father and the family Mikoto has lost.

When his mentor passed on, he left Mikoto a house, his kimonos, his books and his cat.

Mikoto would wear his mentor’s kimonos during important occasion or whenever he feels lonely or lost or misses his mentor.
